Embolization - GI Bleed, Hemoperitoneum, Bronchial Artery, Uterine Artery

Arterial embolization may be performed on active bleeding sites, including gastrointestinal bleeding (hemobilia and/or melena) and abdominal muscles (hemoperitoneum). Bronchial artery embolization is a safe and effective nonsurgical treatment for patients with massive hemoptysis (coughing up of blood).

During these procedures, a catheter is navigated by an interventional radiologist (using imaging guidance) to the bleeding vessel and specialized agents are delivered to occlude the blood vessel.
