Nephrostomy and Uteral Stent Placement

A nephrostomy is a procedure that provides urinary drainage when the ureter is obstructed and other options are not available to the patient. It can also be used for kidney stone treatment or to provide local chemotherapy in patients with kidney tumors. Uretal stent placement is a procedure to prevent or treat an obstruction preventing urine flow from the kidney. Both procedures use imaging guidance and are performed by an interventional radiologist.
